Of the five boroughs of New York City, Staten Island, is characterized by dramatic landscape and natural conditions, but has also served as a key freight pivot well connected to the continental U.S.A., but not well with the rest of the city. i Through our research of the different systems of the island (geology and hydrology, community engagement and industry), the project pulls a thread through a series of existing
processes along the North Shore of Staten Island, including snow melting, water runoff, freight, jobs, street congestion, etc. It aims to reactivate the waterfront community by starting a new form of sustainable industry, engaging the process and systems stated above with architectural and urban designs that spark a re-thinking of the relationship between circular economies, modern urban infrastructure and community life.
